Ovarian Cancer: Hope's Patient Story

What happened, in summary

Hope Aguilar’s ovarian-cancer journey began with a late diagnosis in December 2011. Her cancer was identified as high-grade serous ovarian cancer. She underwent debulking surgery with a total abdominal hysterectomy, followed by about 5 months of intraperitoneal chemotherapy. She described those early months as physically difficult, while family, friends, faith, and her military background helped her keep moving forward.

After treatment, Hope began sharing her experience publicly and wrote a book about her journey in 2014. Years later, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ovarian cancer recurred and she went through chemotherapy again. Practical support became especially important during that period, including meal assistance when daily tasks were difficult.

More than 14 years after her December 2011 diagnosis, Hope is described as a survivor and advocate. She created the Teal Time with Hope podcast and continues using her experience to support other people affected by ovarian cancer. Her story centers on long-term survivorship, recurrence, community support, and finding purpose through advocacy.
