What happened, in summary
Shraddha Pandey discovered a hard lump in her abdomen while she was still in school. A local doctor referred her to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and quickly transferred to another city for treatment. The diagnosis was frightening for Shraddha and her parents, who knew little about the disease or what treatment would involve. Surgery was performed to remove the cancer and was described as successful. Recovery took time, but with medical support Shraddha was still able to sit her examinations and passed them. She later received chemotherapy, which she remembered as daunting, but she felt supported by her parents, friends and cancer support groups throughout the experience. The illness changed how she viewed time and her own abilities. Ten years after diagnosis, Shraddha described herself as an ovarian cancer survivor who had become more confident in making decisions for herself and more appreciative of everyday life. She also became involved in cancer awareness, hoping that sharing her story could support people facing a new diagnosis and encourage attention to symptoms and regular medical care.
