What happened, in summary
Lorie Young was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in March 2026 after a 1.2-inch tumor in the lower left lung was found by chance during a routine physical. A robotic bronchoscopy biopsy and other tests confirmed the diagnosis. Because the cancer had already metastasized, surgery was not an option. Genetic testing then found an NTRK1 fusion in the tumor. That result opened the door to a Phase 2 clinical trial of TL-118, a targeted therapy designed for cancers with this alteration. Lorie chose to join the trial and began treatment. After a couple of months on the medication, her latest CT scan showed a strong response. She understood that it was still too early to know how long the benefit would last or when resistance might develop. Working in the pharmaceutical industry had made Lorie comfortable with how investigational treatments are studied, but the experience also changed how she viewed progress in cancer research. Her own treatment showed her how testing the biology of a tumor can shape treatment choices for an individual patient.
