This story was shared by the sister of a woman with aggressive lung cancer and bone metastases. The cancer involved the skull and spine and had caused a clavicle fracture. Around the same time, doctors also found a localized 4 cm breast cancer. She received radiation to reduce pain from the bone lesions, surgery, cementoplasty, 2 heavy chemotherapy courses, and immunotherapy. Despite those treatments, the disease continued to progress. She was still receiving chemotherapy with carboplatin and Taxol when her sister contacted the association. Between chemotherapy cycles, she tried a 2-day artemisinin course, then continued with a metabolic approach and reduced added sugars. Her caregiver described rapid improvement: better energy, no pain, fewer chemotherapy side effects, disappearance of a visible forehead metastasis, and a 1 cm reduction in the breast tumor. The family was waiting for CT and MRI scans at the end of August to learn more about the lung cancer’s course. Her course was still active because much of the improvement occurred before the next CT and MRI scans at the end of August. The clinical path remained complex: metastatic lung cancer, bone involvement, concurrent localized breast cancer, multiple prior treatments, ongoing carboplatin/Taxol, and short-term improvement during continued care.
