François was 62 when he shared his experience of lung cancer. The first clear warning sign came at work, when he coughed blood into a white tissue. He waited 4 days before telling his wife, Françoise, because he did not want to frighten her. His doctor ordered imaging, including a scan and MRI, and a radiologist warned that something serious was present. A pneumologist in Strasbourg was more hopeful, which helped François and his family move into treatment with some confidence. François received 20 radiation sessions and 6 chemotherapy sessions. During hospitalization, Françoise visited every afternoon and became his main emotional support. The waiting periods before test results were among the hardest parts. After treatment, François had long-lasting physical effects, including difficulty walking and breathlessness with very short activity. He also tried to return to work, first in a do-it-yourself store, but his health and work conditions made that difficult. He later adjusted through disability pension support and rental income from a small property. By the May 2024 site update, he had no daily cancer restrictions other than hospital exams every 6 months, and he focused on travel, home, and living with more perspective after a demanding treatment period together.
