A 54-year-old man with a 30 pack-year smoking history and brief past asbestos exposure sought care for a prolonged cough. Imaging showed a 60 by 43 by 41 mm central right-lung tumor, 7 nearby satellite nodules, and regional lymph-node disease. Biopsy confirmed lung adenocarcinoma, classified as T4N3M0.
Review of the scans also identified a 14 mm lesion in the left kidney that was strongly suspected to be a metastasis from the lung primary. A multidisciplinary team chose a kidney-sparing local approach to complement his systemic cancer care. The kidney lesion was treated with CT-guided cryoablation. A biopsy performed during the procedure was inconclusive, but radiological review supported lung-cancer metastasis rather than a new kidney primary.
The procedure was completed as a kidney-sparing local treatment after multidisciplinary review.
