Adjusting to life without a stomach was physically and mentally difficult. Chad had to relearn how to eat and struggled to maintain his weight. Three weeks after surgery, he developed a major gastrointestinal bleed. His wife, an operating-room nurse, performed CPR and helped save his life.
Over the following 4 years, Chad shifted from competitive soccer to men’s physique competitions. He placed in several events and began developing a fitness, nutrition, and life-coaching business to support people affected by cancer and others working toward healthier lifestyles.
