What happened, in summary

Peggy's cancer journey began in October 2023 after fatigue and anemia led to medical evaluation. Colonoscopy and endoscopy found a mass in the colon. The diagnosis brought fear, worry and confusion, but also hope. Peggy underwent a total colectomy, removing the entire colon, and then received chemotherapy. Treatment caused diarrhea, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, which were managed through better nutrition and prescribed medication. After treatment, Peggy made lasting changes to daily life, including healthier eating and more physical activity. The experience also changed priorities, with more attention given to gardening, walks with friends, holidays and staying active. A major fear throughout treatment was not being able to cope alone, and learning to accept help from friends and family became an important part of recovery. Peggy has completed treatment and describes being in remission, while still experiencing a mixture of fear, worry, optimism and gratitude as life moves forward.
