What happened, in summary
Sundar Matpadi was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August 2012 at age 46. Sundar underwent total gastrectomy the following month, followed by 92 days of oral chemotherapy and 30 days of radiation. Treatment ended in May 2013.
The treatment and recovery caused major nutritional challenges. Sundar lost about 100 pounds and continued to rely on a J-tube for nutrition. In the 2 months before sharing the story, Sundar had begun to regain a small amount of weight.
Sundar reported no evidence of disease after completing treatment. The experience brought the family closer and deepened their appreciation of life and relationships. Sundar also encouraged earlier screening, recognizing that stomach cancer is often detected at a later stage.
