What happened, in summary
Donny had experienced symptoms since 2004, but repeated endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound, and X-ray examinations did not identify the cause. Years later, he left work feeling severely ill with what seemed like flu. The next morning, he was taken to the emergency department and admitted with unexplained internal bleeding.
After transfer to a Boston hospital, doctors found cancer affecting multiple organs, although the primary site was still unknown. Donny died after only 4 days in hospital. Biopsy results returned after his death and identified diffuse gastric adenocarcinoma. He was 47.
His sudden loss deeply affected his family and friends, including his 13-year-old daughter. His family emphasized the difficulty of detecting stomach cancer early, especially when symptoms persist despite repeated testing.
