Stage IV Breast Cancer: Simone's Patient Story

What happened, in summary

Simone sought medical care after developing headaches and sharp, shooting pain in her left breast. She was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and had not yet started cancer treatment when she shared her story. The diagnosis left her overwhelmed, helpless, angry and frightened. She decided on a treatment plan after discussing recommendations with her doctor and doing some of her own research. Chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy are planned, together with medication for pain. At the time she shared her story, she was still waiting for these treatments to begin. While waiting for treatment, Simone has focused on changes she can make herself. She began eating a healthier diet every day and has made more effort to call or message her parents. She also relies on her partner when fear becomes difficult to manage. Her biggest fear is dying, and the uncertainty of Stage IV disease has made it hard to make long-term plans. Even so, she hopes to survive the next 5 years and spend as much time as possible with her parents. She describes her emotions as still intense while she waits for treatment to begin.
