What happened, in summary
Adriana was 39 when a lump under her left armpit made her feel that something was wrong. On October 19, 2023, she learned that she had stage 4 breast cancer.
Following her doctors' recommendation, Adriana underwent a mastectomy and then intensive chemotherapy described as high-toxicity antineoplastic polytherapy. Treatment caused fatigue, hair loss and loss of appetite, which she managed with prescribed medication. The experience also created serious financial pressure, including times when she struggled to afford food, services or transportation.
Adriana was raising 2 children and lived with one of them. She hoped her daughter could live with her again and wanted her health to improve so she could continue working for her family. Workshops at a breast cancer foundation, knitting, music and faith helped keep her occupied and gave her a sense of support.
She continued to struggle with fear, loneliness and the possibility of dying, but she remained committed to treatment. Adriana encouraged others to follow medical guidance, stay active and keep moving forward even on days when the emotional burden felt overwhelming.
