What happened, in summary

Ornella first found a small lump in her right breast during a self-examination in 2013. Ultrasound and mammography showed suspicious nodules, and a core needle biopsy confirmed stage 2 breast cancer. She sought a second opinion and was told that her estimated 5-year survival rate was 100%. The diagnosis led her to eat a healthier diet 3 to 5 days per week and increase her exercise by about 50%. Breast cancer returned when she was 40 in 2022. Across her treatment journey, chemotherapy was a confirmed part of care. Hair loss and loss of appetite were the most difficult effects, and she managed them with better nutrition, sleep, and rest. In September 2022, Ornella was declared cancer-free. She continued the healthier diet and exercise habits after treatment and became more intentional about staying connected with her parents and family. Her son, future grandchildren, faith, and hope for professional independence remained major sources of motivation. Although she feared the effect of her illness on loved ones, she later described feeling confident, courageous, hopeful, and optimistic about the future.
