What happened, in summary

Erika developed painful, sore breasts with small bumps and was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. The diagnosis was frightening and left her nervous, worried, and overwhelmed. Her initial recommendation included mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and targeted therapy. After researching her options and discussing them with her doctor, she chose hormone therapy instead of radiation. She completed the other treatments and continued hormone medication. During treatment, she used improved nutrition and a cold cap as coping strategies, and she maintained a healthier diet afterward. By November 2023, Erika said she had completed treatment and was cancer free, although hormone therapy remained ongoing. The experience prompted her to contact and visit her parents more often. She also left her corporate job to pursue a baking business and hoped eventually to open physical stores around Atlanta. Fear of recurrence continued to cause anxiety, leading her to join a survivor support group and consider therapy, but she described herself as increasingly hopeful and thankful.
