Stage 0 Breast Cancer: Jane's Patient Story

What happened, in summary

Jane noticed a change in the size and shape of her breast, and a routine mammogram led to a diagnosis of stage 0 breast cancer in July 2023. The news brought fear, vulnerability, anxiety, and powerlessness, although she also tried to remain hopeful and thankful. Her doctors recommended mastectomy and radiation therapy. Jane instead chose lymphadenectomy as her surgery and was still receiving cancer treatment at the time of her story. Deciding on the plan left her anxious and scared but also motivated and relieved to be moving forward. After diagnosis, she initially exercised more and tried to improve her diet. During treatment she continued exercising, although she felt that her diet had become less healthy. She also spent more time with her children. Jane hoped to take holidays with her family, move forward with her loved ones, and enjoy a good life after cancer. Her greatest fear was that the disease could spread. She encouraged others to seek support from family and friends, look after their health, and listen closely to their medical team.
