Stage IV breast cancer with adrenal, lung, and possible bone metastases living-with-cancer story

What happened, in summary

A woman was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and had surgery, but the adrenal metastasis could not be removed and remained in place. She went through one standard treatment after another. At times, bowel obstruction led to several hospitalizations, including moments serious enough that relatives were called. She recovered from those crises and continued treatment. Her care later centered on a university hospital, where she received treatment every few weeks. The remaining adrenal tumor grew to 10 cm twice, leading to hospitalizations for treatment changes and new medication. With later treatment, the adrenal tumor appeared to shrink to about 5 cm and showed signs of calcification. Multiple small lung metastases also appeared, enlarged, and then shrank. A small bone metastasis was suspected more recently. Despite living with metastatic cancer, she described her overall condition as very good, with no pain and blood test results mostly within standard ranges. She continued working, doing housework, and traveling while pacing herself. Lifestyle changes around food, sleep, relationships, and emotional health helped her feel stronger. Her focus became living longer while also enjoying life now. She continued regular monitoring while choosing not to let treatment schedules, scans, or tumor measurements become the only measure of her life.
