What happened, in summary
Martha’s breast cancer was found during a regular examination after she experienced pain extending from her breast to her back, swelling, and a change in breast size. Her family history included a sister with breast cancer and a mother with liver cancer.
Following her doctor’s recommendation and considering financial factors, Martha underwent lumpectomy and lymphadenectomy. She also received chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Pain medication helped her manage discomfort. At the time of her story, she said the cancer was in remission and she continued oral Letrozol as hormone therapy.
After diagnosis, Martha increased her exercise and adopted a healthier daily diet. Beginning treatment made her anxious, but it also gave her more motivation and hope. Her family remained central to her recovery. She wanted to spend many more years with her children, travel again, and see them achieve their goals.
Faith helped Martha face both illness and treatment. She encouraged others to approach cancer with hope and strength and to trust in their medical care while remaining connected to the people who mattered most.
