What happened, in summary
Doranci sought medical attention after finding a painful breast lump that continued to grow and noticing changes in the size and shape of her breast. Her treatment included a mastectomy, lymphadenectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and hormone therapy. Once the plan was established, she felt hopeful, relieved, and motivated to move forward. Treatment brought fatigue, hair loss, nausea, and vomiting. She did not use a specific strategy to manage those side effects. The experience also created practical pressure, including difficulty paying for food and lodging during treatment. Doranci later said her cancer was in remission. Her relationships remained largely stable, although she contacted her parents more often and continued spending considerable time with her children. Faith and family were central to how she faced cancer. She hoped to visit relatives across Colombia, pay off a debt, and see her grandchildren grow up. Her message to others was to keep moving forward and not become demoralized.
