What happened, in summary
Adriana was 34 and living in Israel when she noticed a breast lump. As a doctor with a strong awareness of her family history, she recognized that the mammogram looked concerning. She flew to Brazil the next morning because she could obtain a biopsy more quickly there, and the biopsy confirmed breast cancer.
Treatment had to begin urgently, leaving no time to freeze eggs. Adriana started therapy one day before war began in Israel, separating her from her boyfriend and disrupting plans for a new apartment and a shared life. She completed chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy in Brazil while family, work, fertility, and safety concerns were all changing at once.
