Overcoming Stage 4 Prostate Cancer: F.A’s Journey of Hope and Resilience

From Shock to Strength – F.A’s Path to Living with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer

In 2007, F.A, a state legislator and healthcare advocate, was shocked to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis at the age of 54. What started as a routine PSA test during a health fair quickly led to a biopsy and the revelation that he had prostate cancer. Initially, he chose robotic surgery as his treatment method, followed by a year of radiation therapy. However, two years later, his PSA levels began rising, and scans revealed that his cancer had metastasized to his bones, including his neck, back, rib cage, and spinal cord.

In search of specialized care, he turned to Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (now City of Hope®) in 2013, where a compassionate, multidisciplinary care team helped him formulate a personalized treatment plan. They offered not only traditional treatments like chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and radiation but also ensured his emotional and spiritual well-being. His treatment was adjusted to accommodate his busy schedule, including his political career, as he was running for re-election at the time. This holistic approach allowed him to continue his life and work while fighting cancer.

His journey has shown him that cancer is no longer an immediate death sentence. Although his cancer remains at stage 4, he manages it as a chronic condition with ongoing treatment and care. Today, he continues to live a full life, staying active in his political career, spending time with his family, and embracing the future with hope.
