Journey of Resilience
How Oncothermia Transformed a Stage IV Cancer Diagnosis
A Journey of Hope, Combined Therapies, and a Remarkable Recovery
Juan’s experience offers a testament to the power of persistence and medical innovation when facing a dire cancer diagnosis. In November 2021, he was informed that metastatic tumors in his liver and lung left him with zero hope of recovery. Seeking alternatives, he contacted Dr. Elisabeth Arrojo and the INMOA clinic, where he began treatment with Oncothermia—an advanced therapy that can be used alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy to enhance results.
According to Juan, the Oncothermia sessions worked exceptionally well, causing multiple lung nodules to cavitate and improving the lesion in his liver. While he continued his chemotherapy regimen, the notable stabilization of his disease encouraged Dr. Arrojo to recommend radiotherapy as the next step. Initially, the hospital where he was receiving primary care refused to treat five lung nodules, believing it too risky. Undeterred, Dr. Arrojo advocated for proceeding with radiotherapy, convinced that combining these therapies could lead to a better outcome.
The results proved her right. Juan emerged from the process in excellent condition and describes himself as “perfect” today. His journey underscores the fact that Oncothermia does not replace chemotherapy but rather complements it, helping to enhance chemotherapy’s effectiveness and reduce potential side effects. This therapy also integrates smoothly with other oncology treatments like radiotherapy, often decreasing the total number of sessions required and, in turn, improving a patient’s quality of life.
Dr. Arrojo’s guiding principle—“The impossible is what you do not try”—reflects her own experience as both a physician and former cancer patient, as well as her mother’s similar battle. In keeping with this philosophy, she emphasizes the importance of seeking second opinions, especially for patients faced with complex or seemingly hopeless diagnoses. Though the term “palliative” can be frightening, it does not necessarily signify the end. Conditions can sometimes be managed long-term, allowing patients to enjoy additional years of life—often with good quality. Indeed, some cases, such as that of another INMOA patient named Marina, illustrate that complete healing is also possible.
